"F.A.Q.s"

ALL that you wanted to know...

The process is a pretty simple one.  Reach out via the contact form here, text or call us at (256) 759-8311, or message us from our Facebook page.  Plan on leaving a deposit of $300 through CashApp, Venmo, or Zelle and tell us whether you want a male or female.  We will let you know when pups arrive and keep you updated until we schedule for your pup to “go home” to you. You can also send us a good, old-fashioned check in the mail if you wish.

Although we would contend that all of these pups are top quality canines because they are from fabulous, vetted breeding stock, we are happy to move your deposit selection to a future litter of your choosing without issue at all if you are not pleased.  We would just “push” your selection to the next litter of pups.  Also, we can simply refund your deposit at any time you request it and wish you the best of luck. All deposits are refundable.

Our White English Labrador Retrievers carry an adult weight in the range of 80 lbs. to 90 lbs. for males and 70 lbs. to 80 lbs. for females.  Your pup will likely come to you at around 12-15 lbs. on “go home” day.  He is growing rapidly, eating twice per day. His physical adolescence phase will be until he is approximately 12 months of age.  Physical maturity and size fill out will not occur until about 24 months of age.  We have even seen a veterinarian study showing a male Labrador Retriever’s growth plates in his rib cage not fully closed until 36 months of age!

When you get one of our White Labrador Retriever puppies, you get a lifetime of support from our kennel. Upon leaving us, you will have a records folder containing AKC registration papers with 30 days of prepaid health insurance that you can continue, a 3-generation pedigree, veterinarian health screening of your individual pup, vaccination and de-worming schedule, and some food that he is currently eating.  He is likely on a hard kibble Purina Pro Plan Puppy Food and eating twice per day, at roughly 7:00AM and 7:00PM.

Your puppy will have a very high pedigree from top quality canines, with parents who are genetically tested against hereditary disease.  He will also have a full health screen by a veterinarian when he is 5-6 weeks of age. In addition, we provide a 2-year health guarantee against any genetic defect found with the animal. In short, we go to the greatest lengths possible to ensure a healthy and vibrant animal prepared to live a long life with you!

We feed all our Labradors Purina Pro Plan foods, adults and puppies.  It is one of 4 foods recognized by the World Small Animal Veterinarian Association for over 5 decades as nutrient approved.  Pet food is a controversial topic, and we stay out of all that with a tried-and-true high-quality brand that works for our kennel and many other Labrador breeders we know well.  Your pup will likely be on a Purina Pro Plan Puppy food that he has been eating since about 3 weeks of age.  He will be eating twice per day, at approximately 7:00AM and 7:00PM.  You can switch to another high-quality food, but we would ask that you do it gradually by mixing new and old food for a transition period, so that it does not upset the pups GI Tract. Your young canine is growing quite fast as he moves toward adolescence, and we recommend that he maintain a twice per day feeding schedule at least until he is 12 months of age.

Yes, our pups will receive their first vaccinations as part of our health screening with a veterinarian at 6-weeks of age.  Additionally, they should be scheduled by your veterinarian to receive a booster at 9 weeks of age, and one more at 12-16 weeks of age.

At approximately 30 days old, once a pup can move around well independently, he will be introduced to potty training on pee pads and alfalfa pellets to simulate grass as the target for potty.  The plan is to transition to all alfalfa by time they are weaned and, eventually, to grass outside of kennel.  By the time you receive your White English Labrador pup, he is likely 75% trained to grass and should transition well to your home environment.  We have had reports of our pups fully trained to new owner areas and housebroken within days of going home.  It is just an additional level of care and quality that is offered by us here at Polar White Labs at Shallow Branch Farm to benefit you as you welcome your new pup!

“Go home” days are an exciting time for all of us!  When the pups are about 4-5 weeks of age, we will reach out to all the new owners and coordinate appropriate times and days for each family that is coming to visit or video chat for selection.  We completely understand that many of you will be traveling from considerable distances with the effort toward weekend travel to avoid missing work, dealing with management of overnight hotel stays, and occasionally securing airline transportation.  And, sometimes this challenge is occurring with 8-10 people all at once.  Please bear with us as we try to navigate and give everyone as much time and flexibility as possible. The logic also applies to trying to allocate a window of time (usually about an hour) to visit with each family as they choose a new pup and go over any paperwork and questions face-to-face.  Communication is key for all parties. I promise to work hard to help accommodate the best schedule that we can all manage to make this an enjoyable time with you and your new pup, as it should be!

If you are traveling in a group to meet us, generally a couple good towels are all you need as there are enough arms and laps to handle the pup for a car ride.  But I would suggest a crate for riding as an option, especially if you are coming solo or the pup gets rowdy while on the road.  You would not want him to get under your feet and cause an accident.  The pups will likely be in the 10lb. to 15lb. range when he comes to you.  Certainly toys, balls, etc. are great if you prefer to get those before you meet.  If you have a special blanket you want to bring for your new pup, we would be happy to rub it on mom to keep her scent with him as he transitions.

Based on the time of day we meet, we can withhold food or give food early to remedy any concerns with car sickness on a full stomach.  Also, we are happy to send some of his food home with you.

The only other item is the balance of payment for the pup.  You can remit via the same electronic channel you used for the deposit: CashApp, Venmo, or Zelle.  You can also bring cash to hand me when you visit in person.

Distance is an easy issue to overcome, as we have placed many of our pups in homes all over the country.  We can have several meetings with FaceTime, Google Duo, or even Zoom to go over each of the available pups to help you in the selection process.  We will then coordinate ground transport with a few exclusive pet carriers that we use to bring the pup right to your door.  Also, we can fly the pup to your nearest airport, usually with American Airlines.  Please check out the section on our page titled “Traveling Log Distance” for more details about travel.

Yes, absolutely you can.  What you will find from us is a strong commitment to all our dogs, including the one that comes to you.  Feel free to reach out to us at any time from Day 1 until Year 10. Certainly, that includes any problem that may arise, but also the good times!

We want to hear about milestone accomplishments, special events, and crazy funny pics that your White English Labrador is a part of with you family. We have a very active Facebook group online that we would love for you to be a part of with all of us who love and cherish these dogs.
